FAQ

How do I bring WCSD to my school?

First decide what kind of program you would like to have: a performance, an in-school residency or an after-school program. It is best to talk with a principal, teacher or activities coordinator about WCSD and have them take a look at the website. Then you contact our office to talk about fees, funding options and schedules.

What is a teacher’s commitment to an In-School Residency?

Low: 4 hours. High 20. At the “low” end of the commitment, teachers will participate in a teacher workshop (90 minutes), the storytelling festival and the development of a social action campaign. They should read the Curriculum and Service Learning Handbook to maximize WCSD’s integration into their classroom. In our experience, the best programs happen when there is a strong collaboration between classroom teacher and teaching artist. At the “high” end of a commitment we find that being able to talk with a teacher about the learning styles of individual students provides maximum support for the children in the program.

How can I get trained to offer a WCSD in my area?

In 2009 WCSD will offer trainings for educators, storytellers and other stakeholders. Contact us if you are interested in being a part of a training session.

I want to help. How do I get involved?

If you are able to make a contribution please go to the Contribute Page on this site. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us. If you know someone who might be interested in a performance, program, in making a grant or a contribution let them know about us.

I have been involved in a great community action project, how can I share it?

We love to spotlight good ideas.

Where can I learn more about storytelling?

The National Storytelling Center is dedicated to advancing the art of storytelling - as a performing art, teaching aid, and cultural transformation process.

The International Storytelling Center believes in the power of storytelling…that storytelling is at the heart of human experience…that our stories can enrich our lives and work.
